Effectiveness of the Picture Exchange Communication System in Teaching English Vocabulary in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders: A single-subject study

چکیده

The number of children with autism is increasing worldwide. These like all other should be provided equal chances for learning and education. Thus, English language education not an exception as the need to learn it in today’s world inevitable. present study sought investigate effect employing Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) on a foreign vocabulary relying its effectiveness first communication. As single-subject experimental A-B design was employed through repeated measurement. participants were two high-functioning aged 9 12 at school students special needs. treatment phase included 15 sessions. An analysis visual inspection graphic representation revealed performance improvement both cases after intervention. Moreover, some problems while educating including lack cooperation 2, attention mid-intervention, sense such proprioceptive vestibular are reported qualitative reports made weekly
